An independent sponsor is an experienced executive or entrepreneur raising private capital on a deal-by-deal basis to acquire businesses, typically with high recurring revenues in niche industries. This category of investor has grown tremendously over the last 20 years as investors have seen outsized risk adjusted and after tax returns from the industry.
